SA301 12V DC 3 Wire
The SA301 is a 12V DC 3-wire motorized valve actuator, widely used in automation systems due to its simple operation and low power consumption. Follow this guide for safe and effective installation.
⚠️ Before You Begin
Power Supply Requirement:
Prepare a 12V DC power supply, preferably rated at 1.5 Amps or higher.
🔧 Always refer to the actuator’s label or datasheet to confirm the current rating, as it may vary between models.
🧰 Wire Connections
The SA301 actuator has three colored wires:
- Red Wire (Power +12V DC): Connect to the positive terminal of the power supply.
- Black Wire (Power Ground): Connect to the negative terminal (0V/GND) of the power supply.
- Green Wire (Open Command Signal): Connect to +12V DC only when the valve needs to be opened.
✅ Red and Black wires must be always connected to 12V DC power for proper functioning.
⚙️ How It Works
- The valve opens when the Green wire is connected to +12V.
- Disconnect the Green wire to stop the opening motion. The valve will stay in its last position.
- Use a PLC, relay, float switch, or manual switch to control the Green wire.
⚡ The valve is a “stay-put” type – it holds its current position even if power fails.
🔋 Power Consumption
- When Idle (Valve Closed): ~0 mA
- When Idle (Valve Open): ~20 mA
- During Movement (Open/Close): Up to 1.5 Amps (or as per actuator specs)
🔌 Power is consumed only during valve movement. Once the movement stops, current draw is minimal or zero.
🧪 Quick Test
To verify your wiring:
- Connect Red to +12V, Black to GND.
- Tap Green wire to +12V – the valve should start opening.
- Remove the Green wire – the valve remains open.
- Disconnect power to reset or stop usage.
📝 Notes & Tips
- ✅ Keep Red and Black connected at all times.
- ⚠️ Only apply 12V to the Green wire when valve operation is needed.
- ❌ Do not reverse polarity – it can damage the actuator.
